The Holistic Herald - McMinnville’s Affirmation  of the Day No. 1

Day 1 Habits.    Does this word generate a negative meaning to me?  Do I have habits that take away energy from me?  Do I waste time doing tasks that I don’t need?    Are there new habits that I want to develop?  I know that Tony Robbins says it takes 21 days for anything to be a habit.  I want to spend my energy on activities that will get me closer to my goals and I am willing to spend the time to get there.

2  Chocolate.  Mmm, a little piece. The Aztecs believed cacao-tree seeds originated from paradise and brought wisdom to those who ate the plant’s fruit.  Yes, dark chocolate is a health food for the heart and my mood.  Chocolate is high in flavonoids which are compounds that plants manufacture to protect themselves from disease and damage.  Eating them will give me the same benefits.  Have I had my delicious medicine today?

3  Hunger.  Depak Chopra, M.D. in his book Perfect Weight states hunger is my friend not my enemy.  He goes on to say that eating is the most direct expression of our intimate connection with the environment.  Through sophisticated and biochemical events I transform food into my physical being.  Today’s affirmation:  I, _____ deserve the pleasure I enjoy from food.

4  Self Care.  I go from person to person helping others.  Isn’t that a good thing to take care of others before myself?  Oprah says, “How can we take care of others when we have nothing left to give?”  The flight attendant tells me to put the oxygen mask on myself first, then my children. Mariam Nour’s vegetarian healing foods have helped people from Mother Teresa to the royal Saudi household.  She has been quoted saying, “Think of your good diet and health habits as a gift to yourself.”

5  Balance.  If I sit for one hour, am I moving about for at least ten minutes?  Since I ate some high fat foods, i.e. cheese, ice cream, or bacon, did I have some high fiber foods like prunes, bran cereal or brown rice?  I worked for eight hours so now I want to relax and read a magazine!

6  Produce Rinse.  I will eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.  Here is a spray to put on my potatoes and strawberries to let sit for ten minutes then rinse fingerprints and pesticides away:

*1 cup water
*1 cup vinegar
*1 Tablespoon baking  soda
*20 drops grapefruit seed extract.

7  Mood Boost.  A carb-rich meal like a seven-grain hot cereal, skim milk, a few almonds, fresh pear slices, cinnamon and drizzle of honey can enhance my mind state. Carbohydrates enable more of the building blocks of serotonin, the feel-good chemical,to reach my brain.   Yea!
